The Top 3 Values for a Healthy Life

A few weeks back a friend of mine brought up the subject of values in a person’s life.

Happy PeopleNaturally our conversation shifted to health. The point he brought up was that one value that nearly everybody says is “health.” However, just because a person says a value, does not mean that it is actually reflected in his or her life. The example then given was a person who states that they value health and eat fast food twice per week, they smoke and do no movement whatsoever. Now, this certainly may be their interpretation of health and I certainly cannot judge or fault them for that if that is what they do believe, but for those looking for to live a bit healthier there are a few values that I’d like to explore…

Honesty

This is number one for a very specific reason. You very well may be clear on a value, but could still be lying to yourself about living it. This is often the case with the example given above. Many times health is a value that people want, but are they being honest enough to actually value and embody it? I feel that one’s health and psyche would be much better served if they did not value health and lived their life accordingly rather than knowingly living an unhealthy life and still claiming to value health. This will go a long way in building the next value…

Happiness

Once you become clear on values it can be a whole lot easier to be happy since you are now going to be pursuing things and living a life that helps feed your happiness. Valuing honesty gives rise to values that breed this happiness and it will completely permeate your life and all that you do. Now you are free to do whatever makes you happy! This can come in any form that you want, but it is also important to note that you are the only thing that can make you happy. Just something to think about.

Health

Once you have established what your true values are by taking a deep look into your life and seeing if those values are present as well as being responsible for your own happiness you can start to truly value your health. This does not always have to be eating the perfect foods, doing the exact amount of movement your body needs or even sleeping 8 hours every single night, but is more that you understand what health means to you. This allows you to value your health and you can make conscious decisions to live a healthy life.
