All trends have to start somewhere and just like fashion, a superfood supplement gets hot and then takes off.
That is what the founders over at Kuli Kuli Foods are hoping for with moringa. As you can see with this article over at CNBC entitled Start-up is banking on the “new kale.”
Trying to follow and reach the heights of kale seems like a lofty goal, but with the superfood supplement market expected to reach $2.5 billion by 2020 they certainly could be on the right path. Afterall, as the article points out it really does pack a nutrient punch and rivals kale in these regards.
However, to rival a superfood like kale in America might be a tough thing. The first reason being that most people in the US can just grow kale in their backyard. This is not going to happen with moringa, which is often harvested in tropical parts of Africa. Kuli Kuli Foods for example gets their moringa from Ghana and Haiti before shipping to the USA.
This brings up my second point that although I have used moringa and support it as a superfood, however, it is a superfood supplement. It is still processed and packaged before it gets to the consumer, but kale on the other hand is growing in your backyard. This makes it a straight up superfood. The two seem a bit different to me.
It would be more fitting if moringa would be the next acai. A superfood supplement that was hot a few years back, but is still chocked full of nutrients. All of these superfood supplements are very healthy, with Kuli Kuli Foods moringa being no different, but they must be used as a supplement to all of the other healthy foods you put into your diet.
That being said I think it will take off over the next few years. Anything with great pricing and marketing usually does and it seems better to be something healthy rather than foods to ruin health. If getting started I would probably start with some of their pure moringa powder. It looks like the cleanest supplement they offer and could be a great addition to a morning shake for yourself.
Have a Great Moringa!
